It wants a Chip and PIN use first but with Coronavirus no shop is accepting that method near me. Would and Amazon purchase do this? Anyone know how to do this? Thanks.

Online purchases aren't chip and PIN, as they're online.

Does it let you do it in an ATM?

I believe some cards can be activated via online banking. If not, I'd give your bank a call.

  • I thought the contactless card readers had chip and pin options (many contactless card readers require a chip and pin input from time to time as a security check).

Of course they do. OP just go and buy something and put your PIN in!

"No shop is accepting that method near me", really? All contactless readers have a PIN pad also.

Do your weekly shopping, make sure it's over £45 and then you have no option other than to use the PIN.

You can still put your card in the slot even if its less than £45.

Are you sure? Or are they just saying "Please use contactless"?
Because every now and  then, you will need to enter your PIN. Even now, that limit is still in place for security.

Just go to a ATM, do a balance enquiry....

Do you have something like a Barclays PINsentry card reader for use with your debit card? If so, you could try using that to enter the PIN for your card.
  • Just tap it in the shop and it will prompt you to insert the card and enter the pin, the shop should be fine with that surely, it's not like you didn't try to use contactless.

As its a debit card - just go to an ATM and withdraw a nice crisp £10 note - so then your card will be activated for contactless  - and you'll have £10 in your pocket for doing so  Then next time you need to pay the window cleaner - you've got the money ready!
