This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about
everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great,
inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old
Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already.
Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check
the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style
natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning message.

Morning all, thank you for starting us off taff.
Got up, had nosebleed which I think is connected to hay fever, I see that nanny had one yesterday. Now on second cup of tea.
Yesterday my son helped me make a sourdough loaf. He bakes almost every day and the loaves are very good but they go rock solid overnight. I'd said that it would be nice if leftover bread could be used for toast so that's what we were making. He had to help me as my hands were very painful yesterday and also I hated the feeling of dough on them. The resultant toast loaf has all the aerodynamic qualities of a brick. I've toasted some and ate it and I shan't do that again.
Today I really must get myself in gear as I achieved very little yesterday, other than cleaning the bathroom and doing some washing.
The sun is out, the garden is full of birds and my aquilegia are coming into flower. I've got a couple of potatoes that sprouted in the larder and I cant get seed potatoes or seed anything else so I'm going to plant them and see what happens.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back13 -
Morning everyone
taff - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Bright sunny start to the day, nip in the air though.
DH watching tv, I'm enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge, I'll go for a shower shortly, DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was gammon, egg, chips/salad, beans. Not sure what we'll be having tonight need to organise that.
Yesterday the yeast I'd ordered on-line arrived, so I will be making some bread later and may make a pizza dough too. We also took some eggs to one lot of our vulnerable family and I managed to locate some kitchen towel. We also are going to strip our bed and get the bed linen in the wash, onto the line to dry and back on the bed later.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all! Sunny again, and until it's gets unbearably warm I'm not going to be sick of saying that. We did a lot of digging yesterday, OH was on the case digging out the big lumps of concrete and I wheelbarrowed it into a heap for sieving later [ ordered a riddle online] to fill the beds up some more. I'm not sure what today will bring. A bit more digging probably. I've found a skip hire firm that's running so I might order one for tomorrow or the weekend or something so we can fill it and it'll be ready to go sraightaway. This digging thing is not glamorous but it'll help me not to fall over at the back where the ground was sloping. The garden claw [ bought at Home Bargains I think] last year after seeing my fathers in action, proved to be extremely useful because the ground was full of stones so it broke it up really well for shovelling. It was quite slow going though. I was in bed by half ten..OH also came up with a fix for the fence. The tree has pushed the concrete posts out of line so one of the panels is wobbly and another one is just help up by string. The wobbly on is no longer wobbly. So the sewing Bee is back on, love that programme. My sister and I text each other after we've watched it discussing the contestants and their makes. It's my aunties funeral today, my sister's going to vidoe some of it to send me so I can feel a little bit like I was there.Nanny, OK then, I'll make the pastry, I'm good at that. You do the filling. And yep, slice it up for me
And you are under orders to do nothing today and rest! Ruby, hope you had a good night. Same orders for you too! Monna, you could get your strapping children to sort you one out now as long as you don't get within spitting distance of them out the back..Nelski, at least she's getting shopping so that'syou with a special halo for the rest of the year
Gers, nice coat
Right, hello all reading along, hope things are going smoothly or not badly, Trouble free Thursday....Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi12 -
Morning all. Thanks taff for the start off. The sun is out but that breeze is still hanging around.I was up before 5am
but I'll certainly be having an early night as that's 2 early mornings in a row, that's not my usual routine. Our Iceland shopping was delivered at 6.30, now all has been disinfected, wiped and put away, but I have to drop off some things at Dad's at 10.30. I said I'd drop it in his conservatory for him, but he wanted his hair cut. I told him can't do it unless my arms would stretch to 2 mtrs, I'm not Twizzle ! A few items were OOS and 2 subs, but no tinned toms for Dad or lettuce for me, never mind we have a large tub of ice cream, chocolate, fresh fruit, onions and carrots. Whoopee ! it's simple things that make me happy. We have already had breakfast and I've been surfing the net. I don't know what I'll do for the rest of the day just vegetate probably as I can't see me doing any work, nothing was planned anyway and the painting can wait. I'll be reading in my outdoor library if the weather is good, then TV watching and eating some chocolate
I already have a chicken curry and naan bread out of the freezer for tea, so I only have to make Delia's rice to go with it.Hope everyone has a good day. Sending healing vibes to the poorly people, swift recoveries to those who had op's and hugs to anyone in need for any reason.Take care allnan xxFailure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently13 -
Morning folks and thanks TAFF. Sun out here too again. The cold easterly had changed to a gentle one yesterday so it felt very hot sitting out in it. No movement on the trees today so it has moved on at last! It's St George's Day and we always said this was the day we always heard the first cuckoo. Wonder if I will? Didn't hear one at all last year.
I am worrying again (nothing new there) When DD was back in work on Monday she was looking after a quite poorly old lady, with 3 of them with her at one point, She has since tested positive for Covid and so the poor old soul is back in hospital from where she just came. They could all 3 have been infected so its a waiting game now to see if anything develops. No testing done unless someone is actually showing symptoms. Which is a bit like shutting the stable door really.
I have a little job today. Making some of the crochet bands with buttons which hold the masks back from the ears, as they get quite painful after a few hours.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies, worried or lonely. Hope RR had a good night's sleep and is improving day by day. Take care all and stay safe xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"11 -
Good morning folks.I'm up, showered and dressed, ready to face the world - well, perhaps not the world, just the flat! DM's cleaner is coming this morning. She struggles to find things to do as DM won't let her in her bedroom and I do mine myself. The rest of the flat hardly gets used so it's just the kitchen, bathroom and hall. Still, I want to keep her on.DM still not too well. I was on the point of phoning the GP when she phoned me, just weird. Anyway, she was very reassuring about DM which helped me a lot.I 'christened' my new jacket yesterday and ended up far too hot.
My evening was taken up by watching GBM and then Sewing Bee, such a good change from dramas which are slow and dense. Thinking of our poorlies - REDRUBY I hope you're following orders?TAFF - watch out for doing too much.Happy Thursday to all.11 -
Morning all.
AOD the potatoes should grow nicely. You can cut them into pieces and make more plants. As long as each piece has a sprouting bit on it it will grow.
taff, I hope your Aunties funeral goes well today. It seems hard not to be able to say a proper goodbye to departed family members, and these days it may be the only time extended families get together, still that is the way it is and I think it may be some time before we can get back to it.
I'm sure that my boys would sort my clothes line for me, but one is way up on the mainland and I don't think the ferry companies would consider his mother's clothes line an essential excuse for travelling.
The other would be willing and do a beautiful job, but whether it would actually hold the weight of wet washing is another matter. If it was an engine I would have no worries.
Nan, I like your plans for the day. May well adopt them for myself.
Bate your breath one and all.........my ironing pile is no more!
A quick burst of the Hallelujah Chorus if you please.
However..........I am changing my bedding this morning and that means that by tonight the foundation of the next pile will be laid. You just can't win, can you?
Ruby, I hope that you had a not-too-bad night and can rest up in the sun today.

Morning All
Not sunny yet but it will be soon. I've been for a lovely walk although it was quite cold along by the river. Called at Aldi on my way back as I fancied some potato scones (now eaten in a roll).
Wasn't particularly busy yesterday and may have nodded off on the sun lounger, I woke up when my legs were burning! I have now got the parasol out and wont be doing that again! I did go to the allotment to water the onions, I have peas here ready to go in but I'm not sure the night temperatures are ready yet.
I just looked up the rota to see who's working today and lo and behold it's me! Good job I checked and another good job it's not until 11am or I would be very late.
Hope everyone is well, take care. XX10 -

Morning all
Bright sunshine here and very little breeze so a lovely day will take a turn around the garden today !! I had quite a good night I took one of the mega pain killers before bed and managed about 6 hours solid sleep which Im sure did me good.
Going to have another shower today and try and clean the affected armpit very gently.
Im having trouble going to the loo
not wee that's all working well but the other, so OH is going out to get a load of fruit today and some natural yogurt to see if that helps, Im feeling quite uncomfortable with it.
Nels I watched 'me before you' yesterday on Netflix I read the book ages ago the film was quite good worth a watch. Will find something else to watch today. Although I am sleeping a lot of the day.
Have fun all and take care,
TA I hope your DD stays safe xx11
