Hi, if my partner was to add me as a additional card holder would I be able to use his credit card account to do balance and money transfers

I supposed it depends on the card but I would say it is unlikely. However many cards also offer good deals on money transfers to your bank account. Could you make use of one of those?ssdkck said:Hi, if my partner was to add me as a additional card holder would I be able to use his credit card account to do balance and money transfers1 -
Usually additional cardholders are those that can make purchases using the card, but not discuss the detail of the account with the bank. I think it's unlikely you will be able to instigate a transfer - only they will be able to do that (particularly as it is them that are liable to the debt, and not you - additional cardholder doesn't have any liability to the debt). Can you not ask your partner to arrange the transfers?1

Thank you, I didn't know that some providers will let you transfer a balance from someone else's card. I thought it always had to be in your name so I thought being an additional card holder would give you that option.0

some do and some don't. It is usually easier if it is all done online as they tend to just ask for the long card number to transfer from.
Tesco is one that definitely won't let you BT from a card in someone else's name.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

But to do a transfer online would require to login to the account. Assuming that the OP wants to transfer a balance to the account they are the additional account on. Something a additional card holder should not have access too. As a credit card is a sole account only.MallyGirl said:some do and some don't. To do it the other way would require the main account holder card.Life in the slow lane0 -
It would have to be that the main account holder was prepared to take on the other person's debt by transferring the balance. Secondary card holder can't do that.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

So a secondary card holder can only use the card for purchases and the main card holder would be able to do a transfer for that person. Can the main card holder do a transfer for a spouse even if the spouse is not a secondary card holder.0

Some companies will, some won't.ssdkck said:So a secondary card holder can only use the card for purchases and the main card holder would be able to do a transfer for that person. Can the main card holder do a transfer for a spouse even if the spouse is not a secondary card holder.
Personally even if it was my wife. I would not. You are taking on a debt that is not yours... Why would you do that? Even in marraige, Due to how many end in divorce and one party left saddled with a debt that is not theirs.
