External House Paint

Hi all,

We’ve had new windows fitted and there are a few spots of bare cement where the fitters filled in gaps around the outside. The rest of the wall is painted white so I went up to repaint using masonry paint.

The paint that is already on the wall seems to be so thick that even after I paint the bare patches, there is a noticeable “step” from the old paint to where I have painted.

Is there a special type of masonry paint that I should be using that is thicker? Or is there something else I should be using?

Thanks!

When I painted some flaking external sills, the paint that came off was several layers thick so one new layer wasn't enough and there was a step like you describe.  I used fine filler to smooth off the edges before painting and it looked OK.
