ESIM Question?

I have an Iphone 11 that has an esim.
I want to have two phone numbers, my current normal sim is with sky(12 month contract-6 months left)
Can I just get an esim from another carrier or do they have to be the same carrier?
Ideally I would keep the normal sky sim and get an Esim for my second line.
I'm confused how this works.
Can anyone advise an easy way to sort this please.
Thanks

Hi I'm on tesco mobile and they are saying that they don't support an esim to use in the USA, is this correct?0

An esim will work anywhere a physical sim will. You will need to give more information about your conversation with Tesco Mobile.
Are you on a PAYG or Monthly contract with Tesco? Do they do eSim's for PAYG contracts?
What is it you are trying to do, move to an eSim and be able to roam on it in the USA? Get an eSim so you can free up the physical SIM for a local US sim card? other?0
