SORN a vehicle without paperwork during Covid-19
Car is at mechanics, having major work done. Tax is due end April. I'm in lockdown away from home, so don't have logbook (form V5C) or tax reminder letter (V11). How can I SORN car? Tried emailing DVLA - received automated reply advising they won't read emails. Tried web chat - offers automated answers to tick box options only. Tried telephone - recorded announcement warns they'll deal with essential workers & HGV's only - I'm neither of those.

The only practical way at the moment is with the doc ref of the V5 or the V11. Can't someone read them to you over the 'phone?
I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

Unfortunately not, as I live alone (at normal home address) and both V5 and V11 are there. Ideally, would like DVLA to re-send V11 to temporary lockdown address, or even email it to me, but can't get in touch with DVLA in order to ask. Wondering whether to telephone them, on the pretence that I AM an essential worker, only to reveal at the end of conversation that I'm not?! Worth a try, I guess?0

Is there no-one checking your home address while you are away?
On a side note, does your home insurance knows it will be unoccupied for more than 30 days?0 -

Could be living right next to the essential work and not need a car to get there. e.g. can walk.

Trying to SORN car I've had 10 years but cannot find V5C. Moved 4 years ago and I recall updating licence but cannot recall whether I did same for V5C. DVLA now in lockdown. Dont want to submit V62 in case the V5C address is incorrect and it gets lost in post. As I cant get the answer I need from DVLA can I simply cancel monthly Car Tax direct debit for period I intend having car off road?
