"However, the CAA, which operates the Atol scheme, wouldn’t confirm to Which? that these ‘refund credit notes’ were financially protected. That could mean that customers who accept one from their holiday provider may not get their money back if the provider subsequently goes bust."

"Should I accept a credit note from a package holiday company?

No. Until the CAA confirms that these refund credit notes are fully protected by Atol we are advising consumers to reject them.  If your package holiday has been cancelled, you are entitled to a cash refund by law so don’t be fobbed off."

  • What if travel and villa booked separately. Are you entitled to a refund off both due to covid?

Which? is right in theory, but rather overtaken by events. If a company has no cash, it cannot refund, so your "rights" are unenforceable.

If you take a voucher then more than likely you will be stuck with that voucher, and if that company has no money, how much would you trust a voucher from them?
By refusing a voucher, it leaves you open to other options like a debt or credit card.
