Unsorn a vehicle that’s just been sorn

My car tax was due to run out on 30 April, as I’m not using it at present I decided to sorn it with the tax reminder. I’ve contacted the insurer to try and reduce the cover and they won’t insure it if it’s sorn, so as I’ve only got a couple of months Left on the insurance I need to ensure it is retaxed so that I don’t have to cancel my insurance.  I’ve been online with dvla and as I’ve already used my tax/sorn reminder reference, it won’t let me unsorn it.  I can’t seem to get to speak to anyone at the dvla and as I am in the 12 weeks lock down category I can’t go to the post office.  I can’t find any other way to tax my car from 1 May, can anyone suggest how I can do it please?

If you go to https://www.gov.uk/vehicle-tax you should be able to tax it using the reference on the V5C. Taxing it will automatically "un-SORN" it.

I was reducing it from fully comp to fire and theft but I've managed to re tax it now thanks

Don't reduce it to fire and theft, doesn't cover you if your garage roof falls down on it or it gets hit by an errant fence panel or trampoline in a storm. You can get specific lay up policies which will cover you for fire, theft and damage but not driving.

That’s what I was asking for but the insurer wouldn’t do it, I’ve re taxed it now, but thanks anyway

The savings between fully comp and TPFT would have been minimal.  I doubt a lot of insurers would offer TPFT nowadays.
