Do I need to pay a UKPC parking charge notice?
The car park used to be free (I’m not from the area & never noticed any signs to advise of changes)

Edit your post to remove information about who did what. Only ever refer to The Driver and The Keeper, who are two different people as far as the law is concerned. The Keeper has protections in law that The Driver does not.
Do this NOW before you do anything else!
Parking scammers read this forum.
No of course you shouldn't pay a scammer.
What was the reason for issuing the PCN?
What happened when you complained to the landowner and/or retail manager of the places The Driver or an occupant of the car visited?
Read the sticky thread for NEWBIES then send the blue appeal template in blue you will find there, unedited, from The Keeper. The NEWBIES is up to date, although it is still being improved at the moment.
Have you complained to your MP yet about this unregulated scam.
You need to get pics of the site and signage if possible without breaching social distancing guidelines.

No, you don't.GG1204 said:Do I need to pay a UKPC parking charge notice?
You now need to be reading the first post of the NEWBIES thread.
To find the NEWBIES thread, go back to where you clicked the New Thread button a few minutes ago and the NEWBIES thread is one of the first four threads on the thread list there.2 -
There’s so many threads on these type of charges but mostly from last year & things might have changed since then.Where have you been reading? We deal with up to 100 cases every day!
You need to focus your attention on the NEWBIES FAQ sticky, first post and follow the tried and trusted advice on how to progress this. First job is to complain to the landowner and ask them to intervene. What about the business you were helping. Do they have any routes to direct a complaint to.And of course, you never pay a scammer a penny unless a Judge instructs you to.Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

You do not need to, but they could take you to court, win, . destroy you credit, and ruin your life. Why not read the newbies threads which set out the way you can fight theses parasites. Also . Read this,
https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/uknews/crime/11858473/Parking-firm-UKPC-admits-faking-tickets-to-fine-drivers.htmlNine times out of ten these tickets are scams, so consider complaining to your MP, it can cause the scammer extra costs and work, and has been known to get the charge cancelled.
Parliament is well aware of the MO of these private parking companies, many of whom are former clampers, and on 15th March 2019 a Bill was enacted to curb the excesses of these shysters. Codes of Practice are being drawn up, an independent appeals service will be set up, and access to the DVLA's date base more rigorously policed, persistent offenders denied access to the DVLA database and unable to operate.
Hopefully, when life gets back to normal, it will become impossible for those scammers who are left to continue their vile trade, but until this is done you should still complain to your MP, citing the new legislation.

Just as the clampers were finally closed down, so hopefully will many of these Private Parking Companies. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.1 -

the parking charge notice advises the car park is for a supermarket but there are local businesses next door who advise to use this car park ?There’s so many threads on these type of charges but mostly from last year & things might have changed since then.

The reason was parked for longer than the maximum period permitted.
Ok thanks everyone for your help. I'm new to this so I wasn't sure where to go. I'll go & check out the NEWBIES thread.

It is easy to deal with and tells you to wait till day 26 if it's a windscreen PCN, or appeal earlier/sooner if it's a postal one. There was no need for a thread at this stage because appeal is NOT 'Plan A' anyway. Read the sticky!PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
