Annual Travel Insurance Policy

My older parents bought a annual travel insurance policy in February, our family trip has been cancelled and now my parents have said they will not be willing to travel anywhere for a long time with the risks involved. My question is where do they stand with the policy. My dad spoke to the insurer Avanti and they said nothing can be done as an annual policy, although were told if it was a single trip policy they could be refunded. I would have thought they would be entitled to cancel the policy and get a pro-rata refund.
Anyone have any idea?

If that's what their terms and conditions say then you can do nothingEx forum ambassador

Without seeing the policy wording, no. As a general rule, they bought an annual policy and their new intention not to travel anywhere (once restrictions are eased) is not the insurer's concern. If the policy allows for cancellation, it will set out the terms of any partial refund in the terms, so you need to read them.levyt said:My older parents bought a annual travel insurance policy in February, our family trip has been cancelled and now my parents have said they will not be willing to travel anywhere for a long time with the risks involved. The fact that you had a family trip booked means that from that moment they were benefiting from the cover provided by the policy.
All you can do is read the terms and conditions to see where you stand, contact the insurance company and explain the situation. They may be sympathic and offer some sort of refund.0
