Forlough - Notice to return to work

Some people have been furloughed in my company and will have to return to work at 48 hours notice when asked. Clearly their bosses thought of this when they chose the furlough option. Not all will have.

Exactly most companies provided a start date of furlough, very few companies provided an end date, as they don’t have a crystal ball. The advice earlier in this thread of needing to be furloughed in 3 week chunks is incorrect. That’s just the minimum period the company can claim for. Once the company is needing you back at work you’ll be expected to turn up, the point of furlough was to make sure you had that job to go back to.0

Don't think your employer has thought about it logically either. (not to mention the employees involved, unless they are getting full pay)YBR said:Some people have been furloughed in my company and will have to return to work at 48 hours notice when asked. But whilst the employer is 100% funding the furlough, they can more or less do whatever they get their employees to agree to.

It’s perfectly logical HR send out a letter saying along the lines of;sliphi said:

“as per our conversation you’ve agreed to be furloughed from xxx date and will receive 80% wages, we’ll be in contact with you further with details of when we expect to reopen. You agree to return provided we give at least 48 hours notice of your return to work date.”
The whole point of the furlough scheme is the government were trying to ensure people have a job to go back to. As soon as this is over and it’s safe to do so they’re going to want everyone back to work.0 -
Whilst there is nothing to stop you doing alternative things with your time whilst you are on furlough, it should not prevent you from being able to meet your contractual obligations. In other words, if your employer wants you to start working again forthwith, you should be ensuring this is possible. You are after all being paid 80-100% of your salary for the sole purpose of being available to the business when they're ready to come out of hibernation and stand on their own two feet again.
