I've not seen anything on this, but do unused bank overdrafts count positively towards your credit score?

For example if I had 2 current accounts, and one offered me a £500 overdraft which I took but didnt use, would that be a good thing? or would it have no effect?

Obviously it's not a credit line in the same way as a credit card is, but it is 'credit', given it's access to money not my own, that I would have to pay back.

Anyone have any experience with this?
Thanks!

It could put your score up or down.  Either is fine.

But as long as you're not using it, it will generally be seen as a positive by most lenders.

Scoring is a reflection of how you manage your personal finances. Nothing to do with the amount or number of credit facilities you have available. Keep it simple. Apply and use what you actually need. Then matters will simply look after themselves. There's no quick fix to improving your score. Just time and history built.

The existence of the facilities shows that other lenders consider you sufficiently credit worthy to be given them  but how you manage your existing credit is much more important. Overdrafts are a little tricky when it comes to CRAs a the data each bank returns can vary. Having a credit card and using it responsibly is much better when it comes to improving your profile. I believe the existence of the overdraft facilities will be reflected in the score Experian calculate but that really only a guide and should not be taken too seriously.
