Help default stressin me out!

in Credit cards
I have a defualt on my credit file from Barclaycard which is stopping me from getting any new credit cards at the moment (to transfer existing debt not for more spending!). Basically what happened was I thought I had paid off my card, but then there were still charges that went through, as I thought I had paid it off I pretty much forgot about it. As soon as i got the default I cleared the account in full. I have written to Barclaycard and explained their customer advisor incorrectly told me the account was cleared and then more charges went through and have asked them to remove it. Not surprisingly they said no, I wrote again and asked them to reconsider and agin they have said no! Is there anything else anyone thinks I could do. It was for such a small amount (About £80) and it is stressing me out so much. Any advice would be great.

It will be on your file for 6 years I'm afraid. You could add a Notice of Correction explaining the circumstances and your point of view. Can't do any harm.0

Buzz, if you are certain that is what they told you then write again pointing that out and if they are still not willing to rescind the fees and the default from your credit file ask for written confirmation that you have fully exhausted their internal complaints procedure so that you can approach the ombudsman.
You could throw in lines like 'Is it the usual practice of Barclaycard to charge a fee having given misleading information?' or 'Why is it fair that I have to pay for your mistakes?' and say you will take your case to the press so that everyone can decide for themselves on their level of professionalism.
That should get them going

The fact that you have been 1 month in default is not going to ruin your credit file. You may have been told that your account was clear but charges are added on about a month after they are incurred and you would have been notified by post in advance, therefore the charges added once the account was clear are probably relating to something a month previous rather than Barclaycard's mistake.0
