I dont mind getting beaten by a bigger bid , but when someone bids 10 times in minutes to get to over take my max price it drives me CRAZY !!!!!

I know all is fair in ebay and war BIT this has happened on three out of four of my last bids!!! I would rather get beaten by 10 people than 10 bids by the same person. Once it was just 3 mins befor the end of auction ....my doorbell went so placed bid that was sitting there ready.

Is it just me??????? Have I been on ebay too long!!!!

Will get coffee to calm down!!!

Bad luck - you need to be a sniper yourself perhaps. I use https://www.ezsniper.com (there are several others) to hold my max bid and put it in at the last minute. Effectively you are keeping your cards close to your chest against other bidders. There's a small fee - a few pence - if you are successful but you can try it for free with 3 trial goes. You do have to trust the sniping service with your ebay login and some people worry about that - but I've been pleased with this service and have confidence in it.

Don't bid at all! Use a sniper who will bid on your behalf in the last 3 secs and then these people will never know your price and you should "snipe" them!!!!!!!

Thats what I usually do ...when am around. But not all auctions and when I am online. To be honest I don't like the thought of snipers would rather do it my self! I love the buzz of a last second bid!!!!

But after another .....must have it bidder ...might have to reconsider!!! Dont they ever look at other items???? Why bid ten times on this one when another identical item is coming up in a couple of hours????

I have to go back the bit where you said 'my max bid'. If that is your max bid, then you got beaten fair and square, so does it really matter if they bid in the dying seconds or 5 days before? If it was indeed your 'max' bid, then you shouldn't have been bidding higher anyway. You gotta set limits when using Ebay, no matter how annoying it is to get beaten. Whatever it was, it'll come up again.

I bid on a MP3 player for my eldest - one of those funny pink things from Hong Kong. They were listed at 1p - shipping £24.99. Suited me - she had saved her £25. The same seller had 13 pink ones, all ending within the hour.

It took me 6 goes on different ones to try to win! (I refused to bid more than 5p). Some idiot had bid £5 without checking what else was available! Anyhow, a few of the 13 didn't have winners (the last ones) but the amount of people who had bid on the others, all could have had it for 1p if they had nicely waited their turns!

Idiots!

And snipping is just as much fun. I do enjoy doing it personally - waiting until the last 15 sec of an auction and rushing in there.........

God - I need to get out more too.

i use this website the first 5 goes are free and you can buy more using your paypal so if you have money sitting around this is ideal.

i have saved loads of money using this and if you do use it set the buffer at 4 seconds or however late you want to gamble with.

you can also get extra snipes for referring people but am unsure how this works!

This happens all the time. I was selling some items over xmas and people would happy get caught up in the bidding on competitors items and pay 10 times what they could have bought the item from from me in my own auctions. Rediculous.

But, if you stick it out eventually you might find a bargin. I was looking for a multichanger for my car last year and they were 100quid new and on ebay were going for 80->100quid 2nd hand!!!!!! I felt that i was only prepared to pay upto 50quid for a 2nd hand changer and that was a more realistic price. I got outbidded on litterally dozens over about 4 weeks, but in the end got one for 48quid and was really happy with it.
