Employer refusing to furlough, but wants me to work full time from home for 1 days pay

He could furlough you for 3 weeks and then employ you for a week, rinse and repeat. In that working week you could work your normal hours. That would be within the scheme and allow you to get a full week's work in once a month.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Im doing way more than 8 hours work a week. And I have worked there just under 1 year.seatbeltnoob said:you'll just have to resign and life of universal credit. There should be a slight increase in UC from pre-covid. UC was always designed to be a little bit uncomfortable to live off to get people out to work. It's telling because they've increased the UC and LHA since covid which indicates they always knew UC was set lower than it should have.I think you need to give your boss the birdie, resign and claim unfair dismissal from work and tell him that you'll be contacting employment tribunal after all this is over.Have you worked more than 2 years? That's what you'll need to do in order to bring an unfair dismissal claim. Also do you have any documented evidence that the employer wants you to work from home, pay you 1 day pay and make you work longer? Evidence is required, perhaps work a week and go back and forth argueing that you can't work tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday when you're only getting paid for monday.Or are you working an 8 hour day spread out over 5 days, approximately 1.5 hours a day answering emails?
He calls and messages or emails about 5-6 times per day.
I have wage slips that show the 1 days pay. The only evidence I have of the hours expected, are times and days when communications regarding work that needs doing. I do not have a letter or such to say thats what he wants.0 -
Why on earth are you working for free? If he's paying you for four hours then when you hit four hours you send an email telling him that you're done for the week and will talk to him next Monday.
You should also be looking for another job, ideally yesterday!0 -
Personally, I would advise him (in writing) that as he is only paying you for four hours work, you will only be working for four hours. You could ask him which four hours of the week he would like you to work. The worse he can do is sack you, but to be honest it doesn't sound like it's worth working if you're only being paid for four hours.
Is your boss the owner of the company, or does he have a boss?0 -
Ok so you have a difficult boss
What Silvermist would suit you both
And before anyone slates me, there's more then one company thats doing it and if Victoria Beckham can make a claim, go for it

Hi my daughters company refuse to furlough her,she is a single parent and relies on us as grandparents to childmind whilst she is working,
as we are now not able to help with the childminding duties as we are in a different household her toddler our grandson has no one to look after him,
he doesn’t go to nursery or any playgroups but the company are insisting that she sends him to a nursery even though he’s never been before
what do you suggest and are the company being unreasonable
she is a Carer and works unsociable hours

I agree with this. Paying you under the NMW is illegal.TheBanker said:Personally, I would advise him (in writing) that as he is only paying you for four hours work, you will only be working for four hours. If he want's to pay you for four hours per week ask him to confirm what days and times he want's you to work those four hours. I wouldn't do any additional, especially eighteen hours extra for free. I don't know much about UC but I imagine if you are laid off and have to rely just on UC you will be entitled to more, maybe £20 or so a week? I have no idea but you won't be working for 22 hours for that extra bit UC give.
You probably want to keep copies of any emails he sends or print them out as you mentioned you use the same email as him at work. Or send him an email from your personal email to him and get him to reply to that one.
Do you have any savings that can tide you over until you find a new job? I heard about supermarkets recruiting the last few weeks but I'm not sure if that's still on going, I imagine it will be.0 -
Why are you still working there? What is the reason behind why you stay there when you havent been given a contract. Clearly your employer is abit of a !!!!!! taker. You are clearly not earning that much and in this time you are expected to work more for free.
I take it you have another income coming into the house?
Rent of £1300 a month on a part time minimum wage salary with top ups from benefits is absurd.0 -
He can't make you work 5 days a week for 1 days pay. People like your boss will need naming and shaming when this is all done.0
