gov.uk furlough calculator

Good morning, I am currently using the gov.uk calculator for furloughed employees and claiming the refund, its a bit confusing, basically 1 employee is on £500 gross per week, after the calculation, the first week is calcualting at £285.77 but the other 3 weeks are showing at £400 (80 % of gross ) does anyone have any idea why this is ? employees started furlough on 30th March until this friday 24th April.

Benefit is calculated on a daily basis.
Presumably you pay your employee weekly, every Friday.
So you last paid them for a full week's work on Friday 27th March
You did not furlough the employer until 30th March
So for week 1 of furlough, you will only receive 5/7 of a week's benefit.
The remaining 3 weeks will be paid in full i.e. 80% of the employee's usual pay.

  • Be careful with that dates as i did it three times and came out with different amounts! The pay periods and actual pay date are different
  • Hi
I was furloughed on 29th April and started back on 1st June. Because I get a basic salary and then commission it is only worked out on my basic, which is £1239.92 and I am paid 4 weekly. So because it is 20 days I get paid approx. £62.00 per day However, work sent me this, which divided into 28 days making my furlough daily pay rate £33.38.
Work sent me the breakdown today, detailed below.. but I queried why the min wage increase payment wasn't taken into account and also why my holiday pay was calculated by 20 days (because I don't work weekends) and my Furlough pay calculated by 28days which includes all weekends which made it less!

Your daily rate of furlough pay is calculated from your March payslip and is your Basic Salary less your pension = £1239.92 - £71.40 = £1168.52 x 80%  = £934.81 divided by 28 days = £33.38

Your daily rate of pay for  a bank holiday is your current  basic salary £1308.00 divided by 20 days = £65.40

You worked  2 days of P2 so your furlough pay is £33.38 x 26 days = £867.88 , plus 2 days basic salary - £130.80 plus the top up for the 1 bank holidays 32.02 (this is £65.40 - £33.38)

    Total pay due is

    Furlough £867.88

    Bank hol  £  32.02

    2 days worked £130.80

Can you help to see if this is correct or not?
