I got one of these last year when it was around £100 sold the wireless adaptor on Amazon after a few months never used and got just under £30 back.

I've had two Netgear DG834G's and they both went back.

My experience is that they're not very good if you're far from the exchange as they have a low attenuation tolerance.

I am a long way from my exchange and I have no problem at all with my DG834G. I would fully recommend one.

I have one and no problems so far (6 months)

    Here is some info though.

By default these inbound ports are open:

    1864
    4443
    5190
    5566
    40000 - 40099

So make a rule and block them.

Hmm, mine aren't. Are you sure they weren't opened by Universal Plug and Play? (e.g. 5190 is AIM).

These rock! -I have three laptops wirelessly hooked up and four towers hardwired to mine. Been damned good for me. I paid about the same as the above though, as I got it through a work's trade account and saved myself some decent amount of VAT. :)

Oh, and they appear to be quicker at downloading etc, than the USB speedtouch modem I was using before - I reckon about 20kb/s quicker on long downloads.
    Money saving:
Buy a Skoda. Laugh at the VWs who paid several grand more
Its a diesel. 50mpg - laugh at all the petrols
Its a tuned 260bhp diesel - laugh at them in the rearview mirror as they vanish

I bought one of these about 8 months ago.

Initial problems meant it kept dropping the broadband connection. A painfully slow but ultimately helpful conversation with a very polite Netgear support guy in India resulted in me downloading and installing updated firmware. It has worked faultlessly ever since.

    I would definitely recommend it.

I have a Belkin modem/router and a Belkin USB wireless adapter in one machine and a Netgear USB wireless adapter in another. Both machines are about the same distance from my router but the Netgear one struggles to get anywhere near the same performance as my Belkin one. It sometimes reports signal strength at 1MB/sec (for a 54MB adapter that's not very good in my opinion).
Given the choice I wouldn't get the Netgear wireless adapter again, although it does shine a lovely shade of blue when it's turned on.
