Smart Meter incorrectly displaying £9,999 costs today

I've just looked at my smart meter only to find it reporting £9,999.999 costs for today, with a message of "weekly budget exceeded". The sun is shining and I have solar panels, and I haven't used anything that would even remotely come close to using more than the sun is providing today, so it's clearly gone wrong. I pressed the home button on the smart meter unit and it appears to have corrected itself (and is correctly reporting that in excess of 2kw of electricity is being generated by my panels), but it's still reporting "weekly budget exceeded", and showing in excess of 8kw of electricity used today (it should be 0).
I'm worried that I'm going to get an incorrect and artificially inflated bill for this month. Has anyone else had this happen? Do we just need to flag this with our supplier?
Thanks

Check your on-line account to see whats been sent.
The IHD is not a smart meter, its a display device. the smart meter is the thing in the cupboard that's connected to your leccy meter and it sends the data to the supplier not the IHD which sits on your sideboard.
You should always check the meter it'self and make sure that the correct data is being sent to the supplier - dont just wait for a bill to appear - be proactive and check your account yourself at least once a month and you'll avoid problems in the future.
Even better is to save a PDF copy of your bills or statements (once a month) so you've got your own monthly record of your account so that if (or when) the supplier goes bust or their system goes down you'll have your own data to challenge any anomalies.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers1 -
Thanks for the heads up. I can't say I've ever gone out there and checked - I just check the IHD regularly, to see what its currently showing.
I can only see monthly readings in my account. I joined Green Network Energy UK last month, and can only see March 12 and April 12 readings.0 -
Never rely on the IHD, it's the meter that does the work and which records your consumption so that's what you need to check, so unless you've established that it reads exactly the same as the meter don't trust it.
The £££'s calculation is likely to be wrong as it often doesn't include the daily standing charge and relies on data being sent back from the supplier.Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers0 -
An error on the IHD is not the same as a smart meter error, especially when it is in relation to the 'budget' numbers that are produced locally as a function of the IHD, not downloaded from the meter.

I've come across similar scenarios before - it will be some sort of data calculation error due to the usage being zero - put in a query to your energy supplier, it's probably something they will need to fix in terms of the calculations they do on the data being received from the meter.
