Why is it that Avanti yearly travel insurance will not extend the cover time they are not at risk

I have yearly travel insurance with Avanti travel insurance which is paid monthly expiring in September 2020. It is for myself and Wife and we are elderly with health problems.
It takes ages to set up the insurance as the health questions are extensive. I asked them that whilst my wife and I are locked in and can not travel, would it be possible to extend the time not on risk to the end of the policy to give proper value for money. We were told that there is no such provision in the policy and that we could cancel and re book when able to travel. This seem somewhat draconian to me and assuming we are locked down for 12weeks that means that for 25% of the policy they are not at risk and it may be extra expensive to cancel then renew. Up to now we have had 4nights in Spain with no claim and I travelled to Bulgaria for 5 days. and since the travel has been extremely dangerous. Could any one advise me how to get better help. Thanks

I've used the car insurance analogy before. You don't get an extension to your car insurance if you don't use your car for three months a year. You are at liberty to cancel for a partial refund (which won't be as generous as a pro rata refund) and then buy a new policy when you start driving again. Your travel insurance is no different. You've already had several months and two trips covered and whilst you made no claims, the insurer still covered you and carried the risk of doing so.1 -
as a 2nd opinion I would totally agree with Aylesbury_Duck
Although it's not what you want hear the advice you were given is correct.
New User name as MSE gave me a number in my old one.

Another way of looking at the situation is the moment international travel restarts there is nothing (apart from your own attitude to risk) for you to travel
