Annual Travel Insurance

Hopefully this is the correct forum I took out an Annual Travel Policy for my wife and myself to commence from the 20th of January 2020 now it looks like there will be no chance of any travel probably until next year so our 12 month policy is a waste of money does anyone think that insurance companies will extend the cover for people in a similar situation ?

You can ask them, they might give you a discount for next years or they might say no as you had full use of the policy for over 3 months.0

I've seen insurance companies allowing a change of date on single trip policies but nothing about it on annual policies. How do they know you haven't travelled before the FCO advisory was issued? You've also had cancellation cover on any holidays booked since the day you took the policy out.0

"now it looks like there will be no chance of any travel probably until next year" -what makes you suddenly think this? I'm hoping European travel will open up in SeptemberThe questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0

My annual travel insurance is due for renewal on 01/05 amounting to £439.40. Being over 70 it is highly unlikely that I will be able to travel for at least 6 months. My Insurance Co. is unwilling to negotiate but surely there should be some recompense for the fact that people are not able to travel at the moment or in the foreseeable future?0

Your best bet is not to renew till you know you are going to travel, that way you will get 12 months worth of insurance.Lizzydrip108 said:My annual travel insurance is due for renewal on 01/05 amounting to £439.40. I've been offered a 3 month extension on my annual policy ( All Clear )
Not much help really as I doubt very much I will be travelling this year0 -
What many people seem to be overlooking is that travel insurance doesn't just provide cover while you are on the trip. It provides cover in the event that the policy holder needs to cancel a holiday for a variety of reasons. At present the travel restrictions applied by airlines/tour operators only affects travel up to mid June. If somebody has a holiday booked after that but needs to cancel now, they may receive nothing back from the airline/tour operator and would have to claim off insurance.

I have an annual policy with Staysure, I’ve just called them to see if I can cancel and have. Pro rata refund, they refused. I also discovered that they will not cover Covid 19 even if I decided to travel.
Very disappointing0 -
Did the policy cover you for a world wide virus when you took it out? if not I can see why they would not cover it nowInaflat said:I have an annual policy with Staysure, I’ve just called them to see if I can cancel and have. I must say that I too was disappointed with Staysure’s response to my request for either a pro rata refund or pause to my annual travel insurance with them. The actual wording in their terms and conditions is that “If the notice of cancellation is received outside the 14 day cooling off period no premium will be refunded, however discretion may be exercised in exceptional circumstances ...”. I don’t think that anyone (other than Staysure?) would say that the current travel circumstances are not exceptional ones! Other travel insurance companies are offering partial refunds, why not Staysure?
