Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society Limited

Hi I am sorting through my parents paperwork and have come across a Bonus Certificate for Life Insurance  for the Colonial Mutual Life Assurance Society Ltd - UK Head Office
P O Box 60,24 Ludgate Hill, London  Does anyone know who took this company over and where I can find their contact details?  I can find information regarding the parent company in Australia, but nothing in the UK.  Many thanks in advance

Most of Colonial Mutual's UK book ended up with Winterthur Life.   Which is turn was bought by AXA Sun Life, which in turn was bought by Friends Provident (rebranded as Friends Life) which in turn was bought by Aviva.

When you contact Aviva, make sure you mention its an old Colonial Life policy taken over by Winterthur as Aviva operate different site locations around the UK dealing with the different legacy companies that they have taken over.   However, currently their call centres are closed due to covid-19.

Most of the Colonial Life plans were 10 year savings plans.  So, you would have expected them to mature in the previous century with only a few stragglers coming into this century.      They did have some whole of life plans. Does the documentation you have indicate what type of plan it is?  e.g. any mention of "endowment" or "whole of life assurance"?  or the terms of payment.

A bonus notice would have been issued each year as long as the policy remained in force and  continued to participate in the profits  of the Life Office.

If you have found no policy documentation and have found  only  one  old  bonus notice,   it is a strong indication  that the policy ceased years ago.
