Hi, i've gone down a bot of a google rabbit hole and i've not found the answer i was looking for here thus far...
my son has damaged his ipad, its hard to get a straight answer but looking at it the screen, the glass is intact but there is evidence of an impact which has caused what i can only describe a virtual crack with a series of coloured lines coming off it obscuring approximately a 5th of the screen. It appears to be working other than that.
I started by looking at Apple's repair service but it appears to be prohibitively expensive (out of warranty and no cover). Can anyone advise as to whether its worth getting repaired and given the current situation recommendations on where to send it and what a reasonable price would be?
its an ipad Air (5th ed i think)
thanks for looking.

It's strange that the screen got damaged while the glass is intact. What about the back of the iPad, does it have any impact signs?
Ipad glass is relatively inexpensive, but the screen itself can cost a lot (I guess, never replaced one myself). But again, it would be pretty much impossible to have a broken screen if the external glass or back are intact, so it could actually be something else (the cable or the board).0 -
I'm still googling this, it appears that its not uncommon to have screen damage without the glass breaking. It seems to be more expensive than cracked glass. I'm begining to suspact that selling as damaged and buying a refurbished one?0

Have a look on eBay and see how much you should expect to get.1 -

I'm sure others here can give you better recommendations.1 -
there are shops than can repair apple stuff even if it is water damaged and apple say unrepairable. A screen should be no problem. The screen is not just a screen, but an lcd panel sitting on top of another screen called a digitiser which detects your fingers and movement thereof. Apple generally repair will cost you a lot more than going to a third party, if you do not have cover, or is "water damaged"0

I’m not overly technically minded but dropped my iPad down the stairs around 2 years ago 🙁, we’ve (we being my parents and I) not replaced but I am getting a new iPad for Christmas. I have noticed no differences in using it but my mum says it’s slower.0

You can buy on brand new from theedustore starting at £314.50. Not a massive discounts, but still not bad.-1

The lcd replacement is £58 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-iPad-5th-Gen-9-7-2017-iPad-Air-Touch-Screen-Digitizer-Glass-Black-White/202396061315
You will need to check the exact model and size though. Would say there is a DIY video on youtube. I do not know what model my friends pad is, but his 8 year old, following youtube advice changed his screen, but she did slightly bend and rip the cable, but it still works.0
