Planting a rose in an area that probably had fireblight

I've had two shrubs die and I think it was fireblight. I want to dig out the roots , replace the soil( a gap in paving) and replant with a rambling rose. Any advice please?

Although fireblight affects members of the rose family it is rare for it to affect actual roses...if at all. It won't harm to dig out and replace with fresh soil anyway and a handful of mychorrizzal fungi when planting the rose.
