Accidental damage - TV - Insurance Claim

Not an expert on home insurance claims - never had to do it - so looking for some advice!
Bought a new TV last September at cost of £1200.  Current price is £799. Great depreciation!  Tonight I went to switch off another item of equipment at the plug socket behind said TV, leant on top of it when reaching behind, there’s a very faint cracking sound and then a lovely green line appears vertically down the screen right beneath where my hand was!!!
Obviously I’m going to try the TV warranty first as I’d expect them to be slightly harder wearing (I didn’t put that much weight on it) but I was wondering if this would be covered as Accudental Damage on my home contents insurance?  I do have AD cover.  The excess is a bit steep at £350 but at least It’d expect to get £450 back towards a new TV (based on current price for same model).  Thoughts welcome.

    Might be worth seeing what increase a claim would do to your policy price by running through a dummy quote (don’t use your name or door number) as the extra plus the excess might not be worth it as you’ll have to disclose the claim for anywhere between 3-5 years

    AD on your home insurance will definitely cover the scenario you described.
    I doubt your home insurance premium will increase that much to make it better not to claim. Just do a comparison during your next renewal - your price may actually go down. It did for me the last time I had similar claim.

    If you do claim, it may not be settled that way. Firstly, if they can provide a direct replacement for the make and model you have it probably will cost them less than the best price you can source it for (i.e. using their preferred supplier). If not, they may still prefer to offer you a replacement that matches or exceeds the spec of your current model. If they agree to a cash payment it will probably be £450 minus the saving they could have made by sourcing a replacement from their preferred supplier.
