Damp and Cavity Walls....Advice Please

SassySaver88 said: Im just wondering if the polystrene comes off whilst im stripping off the rest of the wallpaper what do I replace it with?Even if it doesn't all come off with the wallpaper, strip it off anyway. Give the wall time to dry out - Run a dehumidifier in there if needed. Then put plain wallpaper up. No vinyl, no "insulated", and I wouldn't recommend painting for now.A damp wall is a cold wall, which attracts warm moist air where it condenses. You end up in a vicious circle. So let the wall dry before doing anything else.Any language construct that forces such insanity in this case should be abandoned without regrets. –

I've stripped all the wallpaper off now, only some of the polystyrene came away.
How can I prevent the mould and damp coming back? I wiped all the mould away and it doesnt feel wet now.
Would a mechanical heat ventilation work? Is that the one where it goes in the loft..
