Roof valley

Hi ive had a leak in January, had a roofer round told me its the valley said would come in day time to look,  wife home all day no ladders went up but gave me a quote as max £350,  ive asked someone else he actually went up on roof says needs a replacement valley took photos and said it had been repair before with silicon, and quoted £1000 plus vat and includes scaffolding . Ive looked at site which all quote less. I have a pitched lead tiled roof. I live in south wales is this price on the high side or average. Thanks for your time.

Is the roof pitch low?  If it is lower than normal, then there could be a problem with wind blowing water up the lead and over its sides.  Thus it could be a design fault where the boards supporting the lead are not wide enough and hence the lead is not wide enough.  Or the lengths of lead sheets do not have a big enough overlap.  

I would guess that the £350 quote is one for just applying some more silicone.

Hi, its just a normal pitched roof. Not low
 Just asking tp to see if £ 1000 + vat. was avg.

Scafolding is expensive - that's where a big chunk of the cost is.

If you can get a quote from someone to use a ladder for access it will be much cheaper - but nowadays may not be legal...

What exactly is the quote for? Evaluating a quote can only be done when the work is fully specified.....

Hi the quote is to replace lead valley and under felt etc. roofer been up on roof to assess state of lead.
