Perhaps it was an online or telephone application and the balance transfer requested at time of application. Their website says they give an instant decision. There is no need for the card or PIN to be sent out before a transfer takes place.

Take immediate action by checking your credit files for information you don't know about. (Make sure you do this with ALL 3 Credit Reference Agencies).

Where and how to obtain your Credit Files:

Equifax (Scroll to bottom of page) Cost £2.00

Experian Cost £2.00 (or Free on-line Trial)

Call Credit Cost £2.00 (Free on-line every year)

Report it to the police and get a crime reference number.

    Consider taking further PROACTIVE steps.

Visit www.freeidportection.co.uk (Free Templates of Letters to send to CRAs) cost there after around 1p per application YOU submit. System works with ALL lenders who access the CRA databases

Consider CIFAS Protective Registration. Cost £11.75 per year, words of warning, it is only CIFAS member companies that have access to CIFAS protective registration.

If you do discover anything untoward on your Credit Files and you can't find the answers what to do next on the CRA websites. Just submit a posting here.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks James already got equifax & experian report. thats how i got the timelines of how the money was taken. was more !!!!ed off at     at replies from Vanquis. yesterdays discussion took the cake!! The lady atthe other end actually said "we do not care how soon the money is taken outr of the account". this despite me telling them that it is fraudulent application on the 30th. It took them 8 days and 6 phone calls to finally get someone to give my OH a call and discuss the matter and assure us that they do care and it will be dealt with and searches and account will be removed from our files.

No wonder the fraudsters are having a field day. Cops not interested (matter fopr the bank..though the guy was nice and reassuring) and bank not interested (matter for the cops...)

Only on threateneing to go to the papers with the documents had them running around!!.

2 weeks since I sent letters to vanquis, equifax, and 2 other store card(next & redcats). Only Redcats & Next have replied and confirmd having removed the searches from my file.
Vanquis had said they would send me a form to fill, no form yet and the searches and account still shows on my experian file. Looks like I need to take it to the next level now.

Received prompt replies from Next, they have withdrawn the searches form both our files. Received response from Redcats, they have agreed to remove searches from our files but have given disclaimer saying they had not acted wrongly by putting the searches there in the first place.

Does not matter as long as they remove the searches and do not issue the store cards which was never applied for.

Vanquis has finally sent their letter templates which need to be signed and sent. Cheekily they have asked for the forms back in 10 days from letter date and the letter is dated 28th Dec which means they should receive it back by 6th or 7th!!. We received it only on 4th Jan a whole 7 days after letter date. Now waiting to see whether they use that to say we are liable!!
