Business premises rent rights

I am renting a room in a barbers, The barber rents the shop and has multiple people who 'rent a chair' or a room in my case. The guy who runs the barbers is insisting that even though he has received a full business grant he still wants us to pay discounted rent, even though the shop is closed until advised we can reopen. Is this right? Can he force us to pay rent on a shop thats isnt open even though he's recieved a grant?

What does your contract say? The grant might not be enough to cover his costs.0

Whether or not the barber has received a grant is irrelevant to the legal position. You need to look at the paperwork, as sharpe106 says. There have been similar threads. If your contract requires that you have access, electricity and water, for example, but you are locked out and the services are turned off, the landlord may not be entitled to charge.0

Usually the agreement will have some sort of break clause, a time limit or an end date. Can you not serve notice and then decide if you want to rent that chair again when it is over. Don't think you'll be short of work later though and you might be able to save in the meantime.
- All land is owned. If you are not on yours, you are on someone else's
- When on someone else's be it a road, a pavement, a right of way or a property there are rules. Don't assume there are none.
- "Free parking" doesn't mean free of rules. Check the rules and if you don't like them, go elsewhere

If you have equipment or possessions stored there, then surely it is only fair your landlord receives some payment for storing theseIf you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales0
