painting cement render

Hi,
We have a patch of rendered cement on a bricked up door which isn't painted yet....
We also planning to paint the exterior wall as well (it doesnt seem flaking, or anything but may well give it a fresh coat of paint).
I have masonry paint which I assume can go straight onto the painted wall.
However I am a bit at unease with the thought of painting masonry paint straight onto rendered cement wall. Does it need a primer? Or maybe the first coat should be 50/50 water and masonry paint? Many thanks for any advice!

Paint is straight on.  Our next door neighbour is currently painting the render on his house for the first time since we moved here in 1988!  It may need more than one coat if applied too thinly so be generous with the paint.  It's a pain to give a massive area 1 coat, let alone 2.
