Which camcorder?

I'm looking for an entry level camcorder as a xmas pressie and mini dv seems to be the preferred option. Currys have two at around £129 online price -
Sony DCR-HC27E

Panasonic NV-GS60EB-S

Could anyone give me their views as to which would be best, or do you have any others to suggest.
Waddle you do eh?

both of those brands have a good reputation for camcorders. i am too lazy to look up those two you name. you should have put a link. anyway my previous camcorder was a samsung and it was reliable. my current one is jvc and is also proving to be reliable. the best way to compare the two you named is to find them on the currys or comet website and do the check to compare. you then see what they have side by side. it makes it easier to choose.
i only have experience of 8mm and minidv but i dont see why any of the others like dvd or hard drive camcorders should be any harder to use.

i'd definately go for the sony. i;'ve used lots of sony's over the years and always really liked them. did buy a panasonic(nvgs30 i think) a couple of years ago but didn't like it = i mainly film bands and it didn't perform well in low light - in fact it turned off the steadyshot ! - i ended up returning it and getting a sony instead. canon's are meant to be quiet good as well though i've only ever used one once.

i always get sony camcorders they seem to suit me best
but they always packing after 3 or 4 yrs,
normally buy the higher end of the market, but i'm going to get the hc27e this time at that price if it packs in after 3 or 4 holidays its not to bad
