Shared driveway issue

    Hello
Please forgive  me if I’ve posted this on the wrong thread but it’s been years since I’ve posted here.
I share a driveway with my next door neighbours who have only recently bought the property.  I was told yesterday by their builder that they want to build a wall up the middle of the shared drive so that I don’t park on their side and they don’t park in mine and to keep both properties separate.
Does anyone know if they can do this?  I’ve lived in my house over 20 years and never had an issue like this before.
Any advice would be greatly received.
    Many thanks in advance.
If this is a shared driveway and you currently have the right of way along the full width of the driveway, then your neighbour cannot build a wall up the middle without your consent. Shared driveways are usually owned individually but maintained jointly. As others have said you need to check both sets of deeds. Shared driveways do put a lot of potential buyers off due to possible problems regarding parking and blocking the drive off. However, a shared drive is handy if you have a large vehicle/caravan which you store in your back garden.

If you are happy to let them build a wall then both sets of deeds would need changing to reflect that the right of way is to be removed and if you, or your neighbour, has a mortgage you may need approval from the mortgagee. As your neighbour is instigating this work I would insist that the wall is built on their sie of the drive and they pay all legal costs.
