Adding new possessions after taking out contents insurance

Hi

I'm due to renew my contents insurance in the next few weeks.  I've been with the same insurer (Admiral) for a few years now. I have a militaria collection that I add too throughout the year. As no one item is above £1000 it gets added to my overall price. I'm just wondering what the industry standard is for anything new (or second hand militaria in my case) that's bought during the annual cycle of policies and how to go about getting it covered? Do I ask for a higher level of insurance to cover future purchases? Many thanks for any helpful advice given.

At renewal time I would ask the insurer for their guidance.  Just make sure that the collection is currently covered for its full replacement  value.
