the screen on my HP laptop keeps on dimming then coming bright again what can I do to remedy this please.

Is that on power lead or battery ??

Does it change if you move the screen/ lid

Is it a poor connection on the charging lead? My MacBook has a Maglock system - and if I nudge the charger - the screen dims until I plug it back in.  Make sure all your power connections are tight.

checked the mains lead to laptop and that is connected as it should be,always run laptop off mains because battery gave up the ghost a long time ago

Check the power setting in control panel, it may be set to dim to save energy after a period of inactivity.

Also switch off any brightness setting that auto-adapts to ambient light level; if ithas one, it could be that the sensor is playing up.
