Boots Travel Insurance Cancellation

I might be completely off base here but I’d appreciate any advice.

I was was due to travel on the 7th April to Lanzarote but of course there was a travel ban in place due to the current situation.
We had travel insurance with Boots but luckily didn’t need to make a claim at all as our travel agent provided a full refund, but now we are trying to cancel our insurance policy as it’s not required, but they have said (as per their standard terms and conditions) we will only get 50% refunded.

This doesn’t seem fair or right considering they were legally unable to provide their service due to a government ban. I accept its the terms and conditions and I am happy to get something back if that’s all w can get, but surely it’s not fair that we’ve paid for literally nothing now? They haven’t had to provide any service at all and we haven’t even had to contact them about a potential claim as the travel agent was so good, so all they’ve ever had to do for us is generate the original documents.

Any advice is appreciated!

They will have provided insurance cover from the date you took the policy out - the insurance does not just cover the actual holiday dates (could have broken a leg a week before travel and been covered) so you have had a benefit from the policy although you did not need to use it.

You are fortunate to be offered a 50% refund.

    Take it.

Agree with the above, they did not have to give you anything back ,would take the 50% and the fact you got your holiday costs back and consider it a win/win ,if you do not believe me read all the other posts on here about people who cannot get anything back at the moment and are having to wait up to a year for their money
  • They legally could provide the service. The ban is against all but essential travel, not all travel. People are still flying. You had cancellation cover from the day you took the policy out, so you can't expect a full refund. 50% is very generous.
