I have TUI Gift Cards worth £3,000 and am wondering about the safest thing to do.

In early March we were on the verge of using them to book an All Inclusive package holiday in Bulgaria in July/August 2020, then obviously the world changed so we put our plans on hold. But now I'm concerned about the possibility of TUI going into administration and the Gift Cards becoming worthless. I note that Martin Lewis advises people to spend all Gift Cards a.s.a.p.

Would it be safer to actually book the holiday as originally planned, as a safety net against TUI going bust, because it may be possible to claim back the cost on our travel insurance (or ATOL protection)?

We have an annual family travel insurance policy from Boots Travel Insurance which was taken out last October.

Haven't a clue why your Gift card thread has been merged into a refund thread, two completely different issues.
Personally I would spend them sooner rather than later, also pay a bit on your credit card even if it's £1 (can be 1p ) then you are covered by Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974 so would get a full refund
