Keep Getting Scottish TV

I live in the North West of England. I watch the news on the BBC. I keep getting Scottish news all the time which is of no relevance to me. Every news report seems to have Nicola Sturgeon on it. She is from another country with a tiny population of no relevance to me. This morning I had to endure a report an Ian Black something from the Isle of Skye population 12000. Do I need to retune? Am I picking up a Scottish transmitter by accident? Do I need to move my aerial?

I don't think your picking up a Scottish signal, it's pretty normal for the BBC to have frequent coverage of the SNP on BBC news. The BBC appear to have some sort of alliance with the SNP as a party rep appears on virtually every episode of question time. If you don't like their politics then I suggest you get your news somewhere else.

It should be easy to tell for sure if you're aerial is pointing in the wrong direct by looking at what the regional BBC news programs is called on your planner. If it is Scottish try a retune and see if it gives you the option to change your region, if not then yes the aerial probably is pointing to the wrong transmitter and needs moving. Have a look at your neighbours to see if it's pointing the same direction as theirs.

I live in the North West - S Cheshire. The natural transmitter to aim for for us is the Wrekin carrying BBC Midlands. No NW transmitter is strong enough to pick up.

For that reason we just use Sky.

I don't think she wants to move it, just build it a bit higher and put in toll gates.

The national UK news at 6pm on the BBC may have coverage of some Scottish news, as after all, it is part of the UK. If someone is getting the Scottish news after the national programme when it should be a regional north west England news programme, there is clearly something wrong.

Incidentally, the SNP may often appear on Question Time as it's a national political programme of which the SNP have every right to be part of considering there are a number of their politicians in the House of Commons. If you don't like that, quick move to Scotland and when there's is another independence vote, vote yes and then move back south of the border. While you are passing, pop in to see fred246 on the way and see if you can fix his aerial for him.  ;)

BBC1 will clearly state if it is BBC1 Scotland or not.  I am assuming Freeview here so you need to look at what channels are shown above 700.  Quite often when you tune the TV if your transmitter is not on full power you may pick up an alternative, even if your aerial is not pointing directly at it, which in your case could be a Scottish one.  You should be able to interrogate your TV through the menu to see what you are receiving. You could enter your postcode here and it will give you loads of info about your best transmitter. http://www.wolfbane.net/cgi-bin/tvd.exe?

  • I just stumbled across this while browsing . Just thought I'd mention that I'm on freesat, live in the south west of England and also receive BBC Scotland . Bizarrely enough I watch a few minutes here and there where I may see a football documentary or classic game .
I avoid the kranky one tho ..😼
