I need a power steering pipe replacing on my Audi, i can see the split but at present it makes it undriveable.  Its not a big job to do, just fiddly.  Thought I'd ask here, I have AA homestart etc, would they come out to me at home to do the repair to get me going again?

Only if they can repair it using parts that are already on the van.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

They would probably tow you to a local garage as you have Homestart

    Read the Ts & Cs...

    https://www.theaa.com/breakdown-cover/terms-and-conditions
    https://www.theaa.com/~/media/the-aa/pdf/breakdown-cover/terms-and-conditions-current.pdf?la=en

    p7, Definition
‘Breakdown’ means an event (excluding an accident):
    a) which causes the driver of the relevant vehicle to be unable to start a journey in the vehicle or involuntarily brings the vehicle to a halt on a journey because of some malfunction of the vehicle or failure of it to function; and
    b) after which the journey cannot be commenced or continued safely or without further concern in the relevant vehicle

    p10 -
    What is not covered:
    • Routine maintenance and running repairs

p17 - General right to refuse service:
    e. Delay in reporting, that is where the breakdown is not reported within 24 hours of You becoming aware of the breakdown. (The AA may agree to extend this period in exceptional circumstances);

So, no, they will not come out and do some maintenance that you know of but CBA to DIY. They aren't a subscription to a mobile mechanic service.

If any breakdown company took that attitude with me, I would find another company.  (And make a formal complaint).
Replacing a host that has just split, leaving the car undriveable, is not "routine maintenance".  It's a breakdown.

Providing it's a "roadside repair" not all are, also a vehicle can be driven a short distance without power steering

Has it "just split"? I'm reading the OP as knowing it's split, it's been split for a while, and he's just got round to taking a look and decided he doesn't fancy doing it himself. You won't find any recovery outfit that'll cover you for an abandoned DIY job...

If it really has "just split", then that would be covered.
