Cancelling David Lloyd Membership

Hello,
I have accepted a new job offer in London, which means I'll be moving from where I was in Newcastle (when Covid-19 restrictions end) to London. I sent a notice email to my David Lloyd Club stating I could provide evidence of the required to move for the role. However, I received a standard response as they have currently frozen memberships and said no processing of memberships can be completed. My worry is that they will take the notice period from when the club re-opens and not the date I have sent my notice in on. If that's the case, based on what I pay now per month, £120, it could be £360 lost if it's a standard 3 month notice period.
Does anyone have any advice for how I should proceed?
Thank you

You have to give a three month notice so it will unfortunately cost you £360.1

Right, but do I have any grounds due to handing in my notice in now instead of when it reopens?0

Not really as your membership is currently frozen so you’re not paying anything.
I suppose you could argue you would have use of the gym in Newcastle for three months now but as it’s shut you can’t use it. When you actually serve your three month notice you may be in London so can’t use it at all.Maybe best asking for a transfer of your membership for three months to a London branch?2 -
Ah right.
I think there might be something there in terms of not being able use the newcastle gym whilst in London.
True, I play a lot of tennis though and I'm pretty sure the ones with courts aren't in central. Stuff to think about though.
Thank you for helping0 -
Best to transfer your membership to a London area branch of David Lloyd. At least you can then serve notice at a gym which you'll actually be able use. When are you moving to London anyhow? It's not looking like gyms will be re-opened anytime soon...As an aside:David Lloyd gyms are excellently equipped and it's difficult to fault anything with their service other than they are the most expensive available and they insist on a three month notice period. In years gone by I was caught by this and ended up paying them for a long time when I wasn't attending. Every time I cancelled I ended up cancelling the cancelation because I'd start going again during the three month notice period!0

@Moneyineptitude Well, job starts early May, albeit virtually, so in an ideal world it would've been then. However, it's looking less and less likely I'll be able to even get into an office by June let alone move to London anytime soon. Gym re-openings aren't really going to happen soon as you say. Who knows when it will be back to relative normality.
Yes, the clubs are great for most things, can't fault them really.0
