Policy advice please

I had home insurance with Swinton group and I didnt renew with them as I found a better deal. So I just cancelled my direct debit. It's now come to light they have renewed my policy and are chasing for 2 months unpaid. However all mail has been going to my ex husband who has just given me a pile of letters (sent to him at my address). I have no idea why his name is on the policy as when I took the policy last year it was under my name only and paid from my bank account. I cant find any correspondence from them but as it's my ex husbands email they have, I've asked him to look for it. Question is, should I contact them and will I be liable for these payments if I didnt renew with them and I've had no letters - they obviously didnt update my details given to them and have used incorrect details from previous years. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Sounds like a breach of GDPR to me... Unfortunately I had a similar experience with another insurance company. They're all at it!
Check your t's&c's re automatic renewals and your responsibility there. You may be required to write to them to cancel...0
