Chimney Draught

Hi guys,
There's a big draught coming from our chimney. The chimney has a gas fire below. Was going to use a Chimney Sheep to stop this but when I looked up the chimney there's a metal plate welded into place with 5 smaller holes in it.
What can I use to block these up, and is this dangerous, in terms of Carbon Monoxide etc..

The plate has holes to allow ventilation for the stack; block those up and you'll get damp in the chimney.

Thanks Grenage..
So does this mean that I have to live with the draught?0 -
It is certainly dangerous to block those vents assuming it is an active gas fire. The airflow helps to draw waste gases up the chimney, and to prevent the buildup ot carbon monoxide and other noxious gases in the room.

It is quite draughty. What about fitting a Cowl. Would that stop draughts?0
