Can I cancel universal credit and the 12 month support they give you for a self employed person

I have registered for universal credit as self employed (registered on HMRC however have not started looking for clients of done anything as of yet). On my journal they did put up a message for self employed.
The job centre gives you a 12 month period where they give you support and they do not apply the minimum income floor. They give up to a year to build your business before your income must meet a required threshold. Until then your work coach will assess what you are doing to build the business.
While you build up your business. I know if I was not self employed, I can cancel universal credit by putting a journal note and they will stop the universal credit.
As I applied for universal credit, can I cancel universal credit and the support they give you anytime while I'm self employed?

You can choose to cancel UC at any time you wish. When you get 12 months in and the MIF is then applied and this results in nil entitlement you can cancel then.Information I post is for England unless otherwise stated. Some rules may be different in other parts of UK.0

Thank you calcotti.
So I cannot anytime cancel Universal Credit AND the 12 month support they give you (which I do not want) as a self employed person? I have to continue coming to the job centre because of their 12 month support initiative for a self employed person?
I do not want UC, it is due to I'm not earning and once I earn I just wish to cancel that.0 -
You can cancel UC at any time. I just made an assumption that you wanted the financial support and couldn't see why you would wish to close it prior to the MIF being applied. If you don't want UC, cancel it but i'm not clear why you would not want it if it will give you additional income.Greg89 said:Thank you calcotti.

You have to report monthly income and expenditure to them in order for them to calculate your entitlement. As a self employed person I think you are only expected to go to the JobCentre every 3 months to review the progress of your business. If that is too onerous for you then close the claim.

Ok thank you calcotti for that information.
My self assessment period is calculated every month and the first one is from when I registered for HMRC or when I actively pursued self employment work, clients?
Do you only put/report business income coming in, in the income and expenditure section?
If a parent give me money (not for business) and if I do not put that in can I prosecuted?0 -
Your assessment period (AP) for UC is determined by when you claimed UC. If you claimed on the 17th each AP is from the 17th of the month to the 16th month.
You have to report income in and expenditure on a cash accounting basis - I am not familiar with how this is actually done on the UC journal.
If your parents have gifted you some money that is not income for UC. If however it means you have more than £6,000 of savings you would need to declare your savings and this would reduce your UC entitlement.

Thank you very much calcotti.
Do I need to report/put in my self assessment if my parents give me £30 a week as income?
Thank you very much0 -

That depends on why they are giving you £30. If they are just giving you £30 then as calcotti says you do not need to declare it. However, if for example you are a self employed gardener and your parents give (pay) you £30 for cutting the lawn then it's self employed income and you do need to declare it. So is the £30 related to your self employed business?Greg89 said:Thank you very much calcotti.
