Cancelling Car Insurance

I paid for my car insurance in December (£230 paid in full to Quote Me Happy).  And due to the coronavirus I won't be using it for at least the next 2 months and I suspect quite a bit longer (I'm in the shielded group).  I'm just wondering if I cancel my insurance, whether or not I'll get a refund.  Unfortunately Quote Me Happy is online only so I can't phone them and speak to someone about it.   Could anyone give me some advice please?

Don't forget that if you cancel insurance the car must be kept off the road and you should complete SORN.

And if it’s stolen, someone smashes the windows or it catches on fire you can’t then claim.  Possibly unlikely, depending on area but worth considering.  If it’s a runabout worth £500 it mightn’t matter, if it’s worth £25,000 I wouldn’t leave it uninsured.
  • Also be aware that you will need to declare to all future insurance companies if you have previously had cancelled or voided insurance... I'd be careful as it might increase your premium - worth looking into more before you decide. Your insurance is relatively cheap so saving 2 months worth of it might not be worth the hassle down the line.

No, this is not correct at all. Cancelling your policy and having it cancelled are two completely separate things, and no-one asks or cares if you have cancelled a policy.
