If you have no records, you can't. You'll have to rely on their evidence.2

I know that I had defaulted with payments and that debt passed to debt company but I faithfully paid debt every month till it was clear which was approximately 14 years ago
When people default, it is often the case that the debt gets reduced to allow for a settlement. With PPI complaints, the redress can go against arrears, defaults and amounts written off as part of an agreed settlement. So, was yours reduced to allow settlement?
I have always banked with RBS, and no debt to RBS shown on my credit fileYou wouldn't do if it was statute-barred. However, it doesn't mean that the debt no longer exists (in England & Wales - different in Scotland).
What can I do to prove I don’t owe money to RBS ??By providing them your proof. Statistically, it is unlikely that they are wrong. However, errors have been known to be made. So, you could just query it with them. This will give a second set of eyes on it but if they say the same then that's it.

I rang Natwest/RBS to check the progress with an outstanding PPI claim, they said they would need to ring me back at a set time but was unable to discuss what would be discussed. As they confirmed they would be ringing back on a withheld number I was worried what information I should be giving to them.0
