URGENT ADVICE NEEDED

Hi all, I'm in a bit of a sticky situation, I don't know where I stand or what I can do, I'm currently off with sick pay from work(self-isolating) I've asked if they can put me on furlough and been told that the company Ain't doing that. I've currently been self-isolating for 5 weeks, main reasons are due to me having asthma as a kid, my girlfriend (who I live with) is 37+5 days pregnant, I work in a military camp as a cleaner / labourer, and I have a security card which says "Contractor" and we've been told were classed as key workers. I'm currently due to go back to work on 27th of April, however our baby is due on 2nd May. I'm just really worried about all of this, in terms of money (as I'm on statuatory sick pay) and I'm currently still on my "3 month probationary period" I'm worried if I keep self-isolating they will get rid of me, I need advice in terms of what I can do? And is there anything I can do In terms of money etc. Thankyou for taking the time to read this and I appreciate any feedback I receive from anyone. Stay safe

As the employer has classed themselves as a key business and are still operating they do not have to use the furlough scheme, it is completely up to them to choose so.

Money wise if you aren’t already claiming universal credit you may wish to look at that, it takes 5 weeks from applying until receiving your first payment if your eligible so it is best to sort that sooner rather than later. You will also once baby arrives be able to receive the child based element to it.

SSP for shielding purposes (as announced yesterday) is correct in the situation, have you received the letter from the government advising you to do so? If not I’m not too sure where you stand to be honest.

Employment terms and conditions still stand even in these times and they can of course dismiss you if they so wish, they must make sure however that they have done so lawfully. That’s not meant to scare you but it is a reality I think you are aware of already.

Self isolating is usually restricted to 1 or 2 weeks; 3 weeks at a maximum if you are realy unfortunmate with timing.

If you mean you are shielding, you should not have been receiving sick pay for the last 5 weeks.
