I went into a barclays bank today and on spur of moment i opened a basic current account with them. As they did the forms on the computer and i wasnt given any leaflets etc, i was wondering what type of card i will recieve. I have looked on their website where i found what the terms are and what benefits i get but it doesnt say what type of card you get (debit, credit, cashcard).
If anyone has an account like tis could you please let me know what type of card i will be receiving.
Thanks

I wondered if i would get a visa card or if i would have to ask for one ??
Thanks0 -
I can't remember the account name but i have a visa debit card with mine.0

the term 'basic account' means something quite specific and is usually for people with poor credit histories.
Maybe you are using the term meaning simple.
However your internet reference looks like their 'ordinary' current a/c so you will probably receive a 'connect card' which is barclays version of a standard visa debit card.0 -

If you have any adverse credit history then it's more likely that you'll get an Electron Card0

I have never understood why someone with a less than perfect rating would only get the Electron card as opposed to the Connect card. After all you have no mony in the account even with the Connect card it would not pay out so what risk is there to the bank.0 -

Lots of retailers set up a floor limit for purchases, ie anything below a set amount is goes through automatically, but with high risk customers on an electron, the card is always authorised regardless of the amount to stop the account going overdrawn.
'Normal' debit cards usually come with a cheque garentee limit, so if you have a cheque book of 30 cheques that could be £3,000 that the bank would have to pay out if it was abused.0 -
Barclays now only issue the Visa Connect or Cashcard, Electron has been binned....thank god. There are however 2 different types of Connect card. The 3 in 1 card which has cheque gurantee facility, these cards have the guarantee symbol on the back of either £50 or £100,depending on your credit status and the card number starts 4659 xxxx xxxx xxxx. The other card, visually identical to the 3 in 1 card is the "Connect electronic". This card works in exactly the same way, says Visa Debit and Connect on the front. The difference is that there is no cheque gurantee facility, the card no. starts 4658 xxxx xxxx xxxx and it operated in exactly the same way as an electron card, ie checks the balance before each and every transaction to ensure the funds are present, and has fully embossed numbers, not the smooth design of the Electron. Fuctionally there is very little difference, other than not being subject to "we dont take electron" from retailers and obviously the stigma from shop assistants of adults with Electron cards.
CC limits £26000
Long term CC debt £0
Total low rate loan debt £3000
Almost debt free feeling, priceless.
Ex money nightmare, learnt from my mistakes and never going back there again, in control of my finances for the first time in my adult life and it feels amazing.0
