Hermes postable service, is tracking included?

Options
Hi all, i have a postable item (600g) and was considering sending it by postable service on Hermes. Is tracking or a tracking number included with this service?

I think i also read there is no compensation so was wondering if anyone has had any items go 'missing' or if there is the option to add compensation up to £20 in store. I don't have a printer so need to go in-store to print.
TIA

Would it not have been quicker to simply run through a send parcel process on the Hermes site?
I just did and it answers your question.
The first being a printer is required according to their site and you cannot add compensation.

When i looked on their site before i asked the question i couldn't really find anything about tracking for postable parcels, i think i read somewhere that the person receiving it scans it and gives you a receipt but wasn't 100% sure if it was for postable or if it was just for non postable, hence why i was asking. Let me try what you've said and run it through the way you suggest (thanks), i never thought of that as i didn't realise you could do a 'test run' so to speak.

I read that compensation isn't included for postable (but on another website i found you can add compensation on so i wondered if you can add this manually at the hermes drop off shop using the pay and print machine?) so just wondered if anyone IRL has any experience of this service.

Also a printer is not required, that is why is was saying i need to go 'in-store' to print the label which i know you can do as i've done it before. Maybe you are looking at parcelshops that don't have the print in-store facility perhaps?
  • Ok so i've done it and tracking is included, thanks for the tip. It would appear i can't add cover directly only if i go through parcel2go which is a bummer as i'd need to take a barcode thing and scan it to print in store which all sounds quite technical to me lol

How did you expect to print in store without using the print in store service?
  • I think there's been a misunderstanding...i did expect to use the print in store facility, that's why i mentioned i don't have a printer and would need to print 'in store'. I just didn't know initially if i could add cover when i use the print in store machine for a postable parcel. I can add cover if i 'buy' on parcel2go website but then take my parcel instore and scan the code that parcel2go will send to me, which would then allow me to print the label off 'in store' but i've never used parcel2go and also don't know if my phone is compatible with the files for the code they send so that's why i was saying it's a bummer as i'm pretty sure you can't add the cover 'manually' in store. Hope that clears up any confusion.

Would anyone that has used the machine in store know if you can add cover manually in store for the postable parcel? Using the print in store machine.
  • I just sent it as a RM small parcel with cover included, so all sorted.

From my understanding, When you print in store you are simply printing the label for the service you have already purchased. via the barcode.
You arent buying the service instore
  • You can also buy the service in-store, just take your parcel in store, follow instructions on screen, choosing the weight band of your parcel etc and pay by card for the service then the label comes out. I've done it before and it's straightforward. No barcode or pre-payment needed. If you pre-pay or buy via 'parcel2go' or similar then yes, your understanding is correct.
It would appear from the hermes website you can't 'add on' cover to postable parcels without having purchased it prior via the parcel2go but next time i'm in i'll check it out.
