Ex partner incorrectly listed on credit file

Hello all, just after some advice or to see if anyone has been in a similar situation.
I have been a member of Experian for some time and always keep an eye on my credit report. My partner uses clear score so thought I would give that a try also. Having looked at my ClearScore report I can see that my ex partner of 4 years ago (we never married) is listed as a financial connection. I have absolutely never taken out any bank accounts, loans, cards, mortgage etc with him and was very cautious to keep my finances separate from him because he was notoriously poor with money. I never even listed him on utility payments on a shared rental we had 4 years ago. In fact, he didn’t even register on the electoral role at the property we lived in. The only connection I can think of would be council tax. I have lived somewhere else for the past 3 years with my new partner so seeing this today has confused me! I’m really worried something fraudulent has gone on (I wouldn’t put it past him) or do you think this could be a genuine mistake? I’ve also signed up to transUnion and he’s not shown as an associate on there, so it’s only showing up on Equifax. I’ve logged a dispute with ClearScore(Equifax) but after some additional advice please!!

Just log a notice of disassociation with Equifax
to her then removed0 -
Why would he be on there in the first place though if I never had any financial connections with him? Does Council tax count? We were on a direct debit so perhaps that’s it?0

You need to check all 3 CRAs, Credit Karma (https://www.creditkarma.co.uk) who use TransUnion data will show the first account they processed that created a link, assuming TransUnion have a financial link on your account. Not all providers submit to all 3 CRAs, especially utility companies. To break the link you need to file a notice of disassociation to each CRA showing a link, the link will only be removed if there is no active (open) accounts between both parties.0

Have you ever applied for a joint loan? Bank account? Credit card?
Or more than likely your ex may have applied for a joint product without you knowing.0 -
You might never have applied for anything in joint names - but there's a chance they did. You might have been listed on some account application they made when you were together - something that might not have been to your knowledge. It just shows the link is there. You could have made it - they could have made it - either way it will show. If you don't have any link with them anymore, just use the 'report this data isn't right' function in each of the CRA's you have access to, and they'll remove the link. I had one on mine from 5-6 years ago, and they were removed within a couple of weeks of me reporting it.0

Council Tax isn't reported to CRA so it isn't from that.
I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Thanks for advice all. No the only CRA it’s on is equifax. TransUnion and Experian don’t show me as having any financial connections. I 100% never applied for any credit cards, loans, bank accounts etc with him because I didn’t want anything to do with his finances. Not sure why it’s on equifax and not the others but I have raised a dispute anyway, will they tell me why it’s there? Surely it’s fraud if he’s applied for something with me on without my knowledge?!0

Yes, but that's an issue for the lender.
You just need to worry about the association.0
