Selling a Car is a nightmare right now
I have had a new car since January, awarded on the Motability scheme because of my daughter's special needs but am having a hell of a time selling my older one! I am in Northern Ireland so we already have had the MOT débâcle here and now the pandemic. I have had it on Gumtree, Auto Trader and FB for 2 months and only had the usual lowballers making any kind of approach (and even those do not follow through). I have cancelled the insurance and SORN'ed the vehicle so it is not costing me money thankfully.
Just having a rant!

Have you have several ‘lowball’ offers?
I wonder if it might be logical to think that those offers might represent market value just now?1 -
Rant away, looking at those sites I see a massive downturn in the amount of adverts currently. Sit on it and wait.'Just because its on the internet don't believe it 100%'. Abraham Lincoln.

We had a car for sale starting in November with 12 months MOT. Advertised it on Ebay, Facebook, Gumtree and Autotrader. Sold it in late February. Starting price was £3800, (which we thought was about 300 too much) selling price was £3000.
In the first week we had a chancer offering 3k without seeing it - which is the price we eventually sold it for.
We supposed it was to do with Brexit, then Christmas, then decided that not many people buy cars privately any more.

Don't sell it at the moment is the best advice. You will only get people offering silly money on the hope you are desperate to sell.Life in the slow lane0

First cut is the cheapest, however that boat has probably sailed.
OP if find out the glasses/parker price and knock 10% off and try again (might still struggle but at least you will be shot of it.0 -
I'll be looking for a new car when the lockdown is lifted, I am expecting prices to drop for used cars, I have been keeping an eye on local garages to monitor prices as well as what cars are on their current stock list.
I want to know if a car has been sat for 3, 4, 5 months prior to me purchasing it so that I can get the garage to change fluids etc, a new service maybe a new MOT depending on dates.
I'm hoping I'll be able to pick something up a little newer for my budget than I could have done 6 weeks ago.
Unfortunately for those needing to sell for whatever reason are likely going to have to accept lower offers if they want to be rid of the car.Make £2023 in 2023 (#36) £3479.30/£2023

You have some people that will be hit hard financially over CV-19 and others that are in secure jobs and continue to be paid, whilst having much reduced outgoings. I'm fortunate enough to be in the latter group, so if it goes the other way I can revert back to my usual old bangers and hope for the best
