I have just moved home and, having my landline very recently reconnected has been a great help and I have been able to keep my existing landline number. Now I have problems with my BT8500 Call Guardian 'phone. I have tried and have searched, I think almost exhaustively, and I cannot find an answer to the problem so I really will appreciate any help.I have had the 'phone for several years now. I tried many of the things suggested from Google - taking batteries out, unplugging for 30 minutes and a number of other things including switching Call Guardian off at one point, but unfortunately I was not successful. Although mine is a BT landline reconnected today by Openreach my Telephone and ISP dare through Plusnet. I still have Caller Display/Caller ID on my Plusnet 'phone package but, unfortunately, it seems to have stopped working.
I have amended my post this morning. I tried again a number of times but, unfortunately, still no success trying to restore my BT8500 'phone to its former working order although, thankkfully, all my stored contacts/numbers are still there. When ringing (I tried 'phoning my landline from my mobile 'phone this morning) it says 'Incoming call and, on checking, it says 'No number.' I dialled 1471 on my landline and it told me the last call - my own mobile number - correctly. I'll keep working on it hoping to resolve the problem as I am eager not to lose all my contact telephone numbers already stored.
As before I'll really be very appreciative of any help to sort this, thank you.

Some providers will switch on caller id straight away when a new contract has started/switched but i know when i was with Sky and i switched over to NOW broadband over a year ago my caller id was not working for 2 to 3 days i had to call them and request that it be activated. It was free when I did it last year and my dad has switched over to SSE fibre and he had the same as they told him that it should be automatic but within 5 mins of putting the phone down his caller id was working.
It may be that you will have call PN to activate this or see if you can do this through you PN online account.

This any good ? https://www.plus.net/help/phone/call-features/ I imagine you have to enable these features in your Plusnet account ?
Edit....Apologies for cross posting with Boohoo1 -
It does sound like caller id is not functioning on the line.1

Ofcom requires that Caller Display is free.
However, some providers require customers to explicitly ask for the Caller Display feature to be switched on, i.e. they provide it for free, but only after being asked to provide it!

Yes, it very much sounds like Caller ID has not been activated.1

Thank you all for your interest and helpful, encouraging replies. I telephoned Plusnet this morning and within minutes of the call ending my next incoming call to my landline was 'normal' with Caller ID being activated. Many thanks indeed.Crimson1

There must be many customers out there with Caller Display phones who do not realise the service is now free, and therefore have not activated the service they are entitled to because they didn't want to pay for it when it was chargeable.0
