Neilson cancel holiday but won’t refund for 6 months +

Hello I was due to go on holiday towards the end of May 2020 with Neilson (a package holiday).
Today I have received an email saying that my holiday will now be cancelled - (understandable).
The options given are to postpone the holiday, get vouchers or a refund. The problem is if I want a refund they say I am only able to request this after 30th September 2020.
I thought I was due a refund within 14 days of cancellation. Whilst I am sympathetic to their situation, I paid for a holiday in May, not to grant them an interest free loan until October or later.
Can anyone help me with my rights here.
I booked by credit card. Does this help.
Many thanks.

The offer of vouchers negates an attempt to claim on your credit card.
Technically your refund should be in 14 days but the travel industry has no income and little cash so the delays have occurred.
It's a hard call for them , bankrupting themselves means that you get nothing at allEx forum ambassador

Well that last line is wrong, if they went under it would be a simple card claim like everyone did with Monarch and Thomas Cook. Assuming the OP paid that way of course.Browntoa said:The offer of vouchers negates an attempt to claim on your credit card.

ABTA are saying a credit note attached to your booking will be protected in the same way as your original holiday was. In France they have changed to law to cater for this to stop travel firms going out of business.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.
